Mom’s Apple Pie

6 C. freshly sliced apples (I always use glass Pyrex measuring cups for this, and make sure the apples are heaping!)

1 C. white sugar (leave sugar out for the end)

1/3 c. flour

1 tsp. cinnamon

dash of nutmeg (or more if desired)

1 Tbsp. lemon juice

2-3 Tbsp. butter or margarine, cubed

Combine apples, sugar, flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, and lemon juice in a large mixing bowl. Using “Mom’s Pie Crust,” roll half of the crust out on a flat, floured surface. Place crust in a pie pan. Add apple mixture to pie pan. Place the cubed butter or margarine on top of the mixture in the pan. Roll out the other half of the pie crust. Get creative, and add some design. Place on top of apple mixture in the pan. Smoosh the edges together. Mine is NEVER perfect, and that is what makes it taste unique, so don’t worry about your edges! Using a pastry brush, take some water, and sprinkle on top of the pie. Then add the reserved sugar, just a dusting on top. (Some people may use an egg wash, but water and the sugar dusting works well too.) Place pie on baking sheet, to avoid making a mess in your oven. Bake for about 45 min, to an hour at 350 degrees.
